Telecommunicator Week April 12-18!
Letter from the President
January, 2009 Dear Colorado APCO Members, Since becoming a member in 1998, it has been a great privilege to be associated with the Colorado APCO chapter. Over a half a century ago, our association was created by telecommunications professionals such as yourself, with a vision and mission to enhance public safety communications. It is the tradition of excellence that has been maintained by the previous chapter presidents which should be recognized and commended. Equally siginificant, we continue to sustain a unique element of bonding and professionalism within our organization. Now that I have the honor of serving as your President, I pledge my commitment to continue to pursue our goals and ask for your support to help me continue to nuture our traditions and enrich them with a new vision into the future. In this letter, I invite your input into two objectives: our membership and active participation within the organization. I recently heard someone use the a acronym of STP. When I inquired what this meant, I was told it meant “ Same Ten People”. I started to think about it, we all have those “ STP” in our circles, those individuals, that are always available, those “ go-to” people, when given a task, will get done, helping their organization, social group or communication center. I believe our organization is full of STP’s Our membership defines our future. Our Chapter is approaching 450 members strong from all parts of the Public Safety community. It is those new and renewing members that are the fundamental building blocks that shape the future of our chapter. Please provide your suggestions or comments for activities that will inform, encourage, and promote active participation for our new members. Additionally, please provide suggestions or comments that will focus on renewing members and their expectations or needs to continue a satisfying and productive experience with our Chapter other than our annual activities. On a personal level, what committees could benefit from your expertise? Training Membership Conference Bylaws There are many opportunities for you to make a difference and the rewards are exponential. The new executive board and committees are working hard planning a wide range of programs and events where the men and women of our industry can come together and help create strong leaders. These talented leaders will be responsible for the important events we’ll be offering to our membership throughout the year, including the awards luncheon, planning for the 2010 Western Regional, and other training seminars. In closing, we need everyones participation as we move forward. If we are to be successful meeting our organizations goals and objectives, we need commitments from each member to further our chapters’ mission.
Kindest regards,
Mary Kyler
