NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 1700 HOURS ON  MARCH 15, 2008

 

Time period for eligibility is April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008.

 

 

TELECOMMUNICATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to an individual telecommunicator in recognition of their exemplary handling of a specific 9-1-1 or emergency call for service and /or their leadership and professionalism with the public safety field.  Consideration is given to skills and knowledge exhibited in the areas of communications and leadership, and the telecommunicator’s ability to respond to unusual or special circumstances.

 

Award Criteria: The nominee’s handling of a specific 9-1-1 or other emergency call should reflect his or her ability to Listen and comprehend the caller’s request for assistance; Take command of the conversation to obtain necessary information; Make independent decisions related to proper emergency response, Think and respond quickly and/or creatively as the emergency situation dictates; Reassure a frightened, confused or upset caller; Address the needs and concerns of the caller; Remain calm and maintain professional discipline in handling of the call; Respond to special circumstances, including coordinating multiple jurisdictional agency response or local resources other than public safety; Consistently exemplifies the roles and responsibilities of a professional public safety telecommunicator.

 TRAINING COORDINATOR / OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to an individual Training Coordinator/Officer in recognition of their outstanding services as an instructor of an ongoing training program for Telecommunicators. This includes Telecommunicators and/or Supervisor who have a major responsibility for the training of staff.

Award Criteria: The nominee should demonstrate the following: Positive attitude toward all aspects of the job; Willingness to be a team player; Professionalism and pride in quality of work; Ability to earn and maintain respect and high esteem of co-workers; Comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the profession; Creativity and flexibility in task assignments and capabilities; Ability to demonstrate considerable skills in the principles and practices of personnel training and administration; Job performance above and beyond the call of duty.

SHIFT SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to an individual Shift Supervisor in recognition of their outstanding service as a Shift Supervisor of Telecommunicators and for the exceptional professionalism in the field of emergency communications that is demonstrated on a daily basis.

Award Criteria: The nominee should demonstrate a positive attitude toward all aspects of the job: Ability and willingness to be a leader and a team player; Professionalism and pride in quality of work, including the work of subordinates; Comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the profession; Flexibility in task assignments and capabilities; Ability to demonstrate leadership in the various situations of day-to-day operations of the Communications Center; Job performance above and beyond the call of duty.

RF TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to an individual employee who through their work as a Radio Technician, 9-1-1 Addressing Technician, CAD Technician, or other support position has played a significant role in enhancing emergency communications in their jurisdiction.

Award Criteria: The nominee should demonstrate a positive attitude toward all aspects of their job; Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work as a part of a team; Possess a comprehensive and thorough knowledge of their field; Make independent decisions related to the performance of their job; Ability to earn and maintain respect and high esteem of co-workers; Job performance above and beyond the call of duty.

IT  TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to an individual employee who through their work as a GIS Technician, 9-1-1 Addressing Technician, CAD Technician, or other support position has played a significant role in enhancing emergency communications in their jurisdiction.

Award Criteria: The nominee should demonstrate a positive attitude toward all aspects of their job; Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work as a part of a team; Possess a comprehensive and thorough knowledge of their field; Make independent decisions related to the performance of their job; Ability to earn and maintain respect and high esteem of co-workers; Job performance above and beyond the call of duty.

COMMUNICATIONS CENTER OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to the Communications Center that has exemplified outstanding professionalism, leadership, and innovation to the community it serves, as well as to its region and state. This may be demonstrated by its contribution to the advancement of Public Safety Communications, including technology, management, and training of staff.

Award Criteria: Nomination must include circumstances of any events, actions or activities throughout the year; contributions to their communities

DIRECTOR/MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD: This award is presented to a Director/Manager in recognition of their accomplishments, encouragement, motivation, and support.

Award Criteria: Nomination letter must describe how the nominee presents a positive attitude, demonstrates their proficiency / efficiency in their job duties, how the nominee has improved working conditions for his / her employees, how the nominee motivates his/her employees and his/her willingness to act as a mentor and role mode. Describe how the nominee has improved the overall quality of service provided to the community. Provide a list of the nominee’s professional affiliations and accomplishments.
