EMD-Colorado Meeting Minutes October 11, 2001
Since 1998 the EMD State program had no backing or was a part of
any entity. Colorado was one of the few states that did not
recognize the State EMD program. Continuing education, certificates
and many other problems were put by the wayside since we had no
backing. Because of the Semtac Council Meeting, held Aug. 29, 2001,
we are now recognized as a Subcommittee of the SEMTAC Communications
Subcommittee. Chuck Vale from Route County will be representing the
State EMD Committee.
At this time, we are compiling information to present to Chuck
Vale in the January SEMTAC meeting. This will consist of a survey
distributed to agencies across Colorado inquiring on the status of
their EMD program, updating of manuals, EMD cards, and getting a
database and website. A final draft of the survey will be ready by
the April SEMTAC meeting.
Mike Merril stated that a Training Group Advisor will be needed to
regulate EMD certifications and training within the State. This
person will need to be at least an EMT-B. It is unknown how this
position will be funded however grants are available. Colorado Cares
does funding for infrastructures. Mile High RETAC also does funding
for EMS although they do have an application deadline. If your
agency needs EMD funding Mike Merril said he could assist in
researching grants through other agencies.
The next State EMD meeting will be held in January and hosted by
Denver Paramedics located at 950 Josephine st. The date will be
announced later, tentively looking at January 8, 2002.
Just a reminder, voting for officer positions on the EMD Board will
take place at the next meeting.
